Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book a ride?

You've got three options:

We recommend booking ahead during peak season (June through August), but we also take same-day requests when we have availability.

Where will you pick me up?

Coming off the ferry? Look for us right at the ferry landing — we're usually at the Memorial Park roundabout next to the terminal.

Arriving by seaplane to Friday Harbor? Walk up the main dock at the Port of Friday Harbor Marina. We meet you at the top of the dock on land.

Seaplane to Roche Harbor? Walk up the dock, cross to Hotel de Haro — we meet at the taxi stand.

Friday Harbor Airport? We meet outside Roy Franklin Airport terminal. Private flights: northeast airport entrance near Bakery San Juan.

Hotels, B&Bs, vacation rentals? We pick up and drop off anywhere on the island.

What if I have to wait for my ride?

During busy times, we may not be able to pick you up the moment you arrive. Great spots to wait near the ferry landing:

  • Downriggers — right on the waterfront
  • Riptide Coffee Shop — below Downriggers
  • Memorial Park — steps from the ferry landing

Just let us know where you end up and we'll come find you.

What does a ride cost?

Fares depend on distance. Some common routes:

  • In-town trips (Friday Harbor): ~$20–25
  • Ferry Landing to Roche Harbor: ~$43–48
  • Friday Harbor to Duck Soup: ~$30–35
  • Friday Harbor to Lime Kiln State Park: ~$37–45
  • Airport to Friday Harbor: ~$20–22

Fares are per leg, not round trip. Island driving tours: $100/hour. Late-night rides (after 10pm) include a small surcharge.

How do I pay?

Cash is preferred, but we also accept credit cards and tap-to-pay in the vehicle. For remote bookings, we can send a Square payment link by text.

Can I change or cancel my ride?

Short answer: maybe. Text us at (360) 777-7572 and we'll adjust — but inside 30 days a cancellation or time change can carry a charge, depending on how much of your slot we're able to refill. The earlier you let us know, the easier it is for us to shuffle things around. If your flight or ferry is cancelled, we cancel with no charge. Here's exactly how it works — the same policy you agree to on the booking page before you submit:

  • Nothing is charged when you book. We keep a card on file at $0. You still pay for the ride itself in the vehicle, cash or card, as usual.
  • More than 30 days out, cancelling is always free — no fee, no minimum.
  • Inside 30 days, a cancellation, a time change, or a no-show may be charged up to the fare — less however much of your time we manage to rebook, with a $10 minimum.
  • We settle after your original ride time, not the moment you cancel — that's when we know what we were able to rebook.

What that looks like in practice, on a $45 ride:

  • Cancel six weeks outno charge at all.
  • Cancel an hour before, and another booking fills your slot → you pay the $10 minimum.
  • Cancel an hour before and we can't fill the slot → up to $45.
  • Nobody's at the pickup → usually the full $45, because there's no time left to rebook it.

Tours and charters work the same way. A time change inside 30 days is billed at $100/hour for the gap it opens, reduced by anything we rebook into that gap — so a 3-hour tour ($300) where we refill all but one hour settles around $100.

Why we do it this way. We're a small two-car operation on an island. When you book, a driver's time is set aside for you and nobody else can have it — on a busy day we turn other people away for that exact slot. We'd much rather resell your time than charge you for it, which is why the fee is reduced by whatever we rebook, and why we wait until after your ride time to work the number out. If you ever are charged, we send you a private link showing your driver's schedule that day, how much of your slot we refilled, and how the amount was calculated. If something looks off, call us and we'll take another look.

What if my flight or ferry is delayed?

We're used to it — fog grounds seaplanes, ferries run late, flights get rerouted. Text us when you board and pass along any updated ETA. We'll adjust your pickup as things develop.

How many passengers can you fit?
  • Red Tesla Model Y — up to 5–6 passengers (back row jump seats work great for kids)
  • White Tesla Model Y — up to 4 comfortably

For groups of 7+, we send both cars with staggered pickups. Let us know your group size and luggage when you book.

Can I bring my pet?

Smaller dogs that can stay on your lap are welcome. For larger dogs, mention them when you book so we can figure out the best option.

What about car seats for kids?

We usually have booster seats in the car. For infants requiring a car seat by law, we generally recommend another taxi company — we do have one available, but it's more practical for multi-ride days or charter situations.

Should I book a return ride too?

We always recommend it. Booking the return at the same time guarantees you a ride home. Not sure what time? Give us your best guess — you can adjust by text later.

What are the best places to visit?

Top spots include Lime Kiln Point State Park (whale watching), American Camp and English Camp (Pig War history), Cattle Point lighthouse, San Juan County Park, South Beach, the Whale Museum, Westcott Bay Shellfish Farm, the Alpaca Farm, San Juan Vineyard, and Roche Harbor Resort. All are regular stops on our $100/hour island tours or as individual rides.

Can I share a ride?

Sometimes! If we have another group heading the same direction, we may offer a shared ride at a discounted fare. We always ask first.

What if EcoTaxi isn't available?

If we can't make your timing work, we'll let you know right away and recommend another local taxi company. We'd rather get you where you need to go than leave you stranded.

What are your hours?

Approximately 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Earlier or later rides are sometimes possible with a small premium. During peak season (July–August), we're at full capacity most days.

Do you offer island tours?

Yes — scenic driving tours at $100 per hour. A popular route: Friday Harbor, Cattle Point, American Camp beaches, the west side, Lime Kiln, the Alpaca Farm, and ending at Roche Harbor or San Juan Vineyard. We customize based on your interests.

How much luggage can you handle?

It depends on group size. When you book, tell us how many check-in size suitcases your group has so we send the right vehicle.

Why Teslas?

All-electric means a quiet, smooth ride without burning gas on this beautiful island. Our white Tesla has over 150,000 miles and is well into the green stage. The red car is at about 70,000 — almost there.
